Flash Video Streaming Not Working! Your Thanksgiving free movie list is only two movies long, but what movies! Unlike Halloween (that I offered a list of 100 free scary movies here), Thanksgiving needs a different twist. Neither more likely to be specific to Thanksgiving, nevertheless they relate to some themes from the holiday. Frankly, I can enjoy these free movies for Thanksgiving and for any day from the year.
The Louisiana Story
Watch The Louisiana Story - here Wikipedia - here IMDB - here (Internet Movie DataBase)
Big oil company propaganda which has a heart! Just the free movie we need for Thanksgiving! This 78-minute semi-documentary from 1948 is one with the most lyrical American films available. In 1994, The Louisiana Story was selected for preservation inside the United States National Film Registry through the Library of Congress to "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." It is the story of your Cajun boy and his awesome family, living on the bayous in such a way of life we can barely imagine.
The boy's family rents land for the oil company, which comes in, drills, and leaves everything just like it was, clean and unspoiled with the exception that the family has a little more money. (Yes, it was funded with the Standard Oil Company.)
The boy spends almost all of his time on his narrow boat (pirogue), floating over the bayous, prime snake and alligator habitat, along with his pet raccoon. He never wears an existence preserver or shoes... doesn't also have a cell phone to contact case he gets struggling. There is not much story, merely a celebration (in these stunning grayscale photography that you may well wonder what are the big deal is approximately color) of the way of life that's no longer around.
All with the actors were amateurs, as well as most, this is their only film. As of April 2007, J.C. Boudreaux, who totally boy, was moving into a FEMA trailer together with his wife of fifty-five years, after Hurricane Rita destroyed their property. (source). He had the opportunity at fame inside movies, but he stayed where he was from and apparently knew as a kid an appreciation of family (a married relationship of over half a century) reflects why I consider The Louisiana Story an appropriate free movie for just one of our most family-friendly holidays.
The complete film can be acquired for free at Veoh.com. As I have discussed earlier, you must download their free video player in order to watch or download their films. I have downloaded and installed it, and above all, uninstalled it, with no problems whenever I want to watch certainly one of their free movies.
The Passion of Joan of Arc (La passion de Jeanne d'Arc)
Watch The Passion of Joan of Arc - here Wikipedia - here IMDB - here
A grayscale silent film that ends which has a woman being burned alive? Oh, yes, just what every family needs at Thanksgiving. But, I have three good reasons for including The Passion of Joan of Arc with this pair of free movies for Thanksgiving.
First, I am thankful that The Passion of Joan of Arc was ever made. Second, I am thankful that The Passion of Joan of Arc was preserved. The director Carl Theodor Dreyer (more) died convinced that the last copy have been destroyed. In a bit of weirdness that sounds a lot more like a movie compared to truth, a virtually complete print was discovered in 1981 in the janitor's closet of the Norwegian mental institution.
Finally, I am grateful that people can watch this magnificent film, on many lists of the greatest films ever, totally free online at Gloria.tv, a Roman Catholic video site.
Maria Falconetti (more), who plays Joan, suffered an emotional breakdown through the making with this film, and he or she never made another film. Pauline Kael (more), a notoriously demanding film critic, asserted Falconetti's performance "may function as the finest performance ever upon film."
There is a lot good currently talking about The Passion of Joan of Arc, this now free movie on the Internet. My favorite essay is by Matthew Dessem in his blog (here). I will include that a film that deals having a person who had such strong beliefs - and accepted the outcomes - is a very appropriate film for Thanksgiving... or everyday.
