Twilight Movie Bella Bracelet! Your Thanksgiving free movie list is just two movies long, but what movies! Neither is likely to be specific to Thanksgiving, but they relate to some themes of the holiday. Frankly, I can enjoy these free movies for Thanksgiving or any day in the year.

Big oil company propaganda using a heart! Just the free movie we'd like for Thanksgiving! This 78-minute semi-documentary from 1948 is one from the most lyrical American films ever produced. In 1994, The Louisiana Story was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry from the Library of Congress to "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." It is the story of your Cajun boy with his fantastic family, living around the bayous in such a way of life that we can barely imagine.
The boy's family rents land to the oil company, which comes in, drills, and instead gives off everything exactly like it was, clean and unspoiled with the exception that the family includes a little more money. (Yes, it absolutely was funded through the Standard Oil Company.)
The boy spends almost all of his time on his narrow boat (pirogue), floating along the bayous, prime snake and alligator habitat, together with his pet raccoon. He never wears a life preserver or shoes... doesn't actually have a cell phone to get in touch with case he gets in trouble. There is not much story, simply a celebration (in such stunning grayscale photography that you could well wonder exactly what the big deal is about color) of your way of life that's no longer along with us.
All with the actors were amateurs, and for most, it was their only film. As of April 2007, J.C. Boudreaux, who played the boy, was living in a FEMA trailer along with his wife of fifty-five years, after Hurricane Rita destroyed their property. (source). He had a chance at fame inside the movies, but that he stayed where he was from and apparently grew up with an appreciation of family (a married relationship of over 50 years) reflects why I consider The Louisiana Story the right free movie for just one of our most family-friendly holidays.

A white and black silent film that ends having a woman being burned alive? Oh, yes, what exactly every family needs at Thanksgiving. But, I have three good reasons for including The Passion of Joan of Arc within this pair of free movies for Thanksgiving.
First, I am thankful that The Passion of Joan of Arc was ever made. Second, I am thankful that The Passion of Joan of Arc was preserved. The director Carl Theodor Dreyer (more) died thinking that the last copy was destroyed. In a amount of weirdness that sounds similar to a movie as opposed to truth, an almost complete print was found in 1981 in a janitor's closet of a Norwegian mental institution.
Finally, I am grateful that people can watch this magnificent film, on many lists from the greatest films of all time, at no cost online at Gloria.tv, a Roman Catholic video site.
Maria Falconetti (more), who plays Joan, suffered an emotional breakdown throughout the making of the film, and she never made another film. Pauline Kael (more), a notoriously demanding film critic, declared that Falconetti's performance "may be the finest performance ever documented on film."
