Spott can be an Android app from Inochi Ventures that allows you to learn more about your selected films and TV that has been made within your personal backyard. Using your phone's GPS system, Spott allows users with the idea to browse by movie/show or their location to learn interesting information about that movie, show, or actors.
For example, Stapleton International Airport (now Denver IA) was edinburgh airport in the movie "Die Hard 2" with Bruce Willis. Up until recently, I had no idea that this hotel inside the movie "Dumb and Dumber" happened to be the Stanley Hotel, that was also the inspiration and setting for Stephen King's popular book and movie, "The Shining".
Along with giving users the opportunity to see their town in a very whole new way, you can also purchase movies from the app, plus you'll be able to send in your personal photo from the famous locale where you live.
The interface for Spott is simple to manuever around - you can choose movies or shows by title, location, or movies which can be near you. Obviously the nearby feature is the greatest, particularly when you're traveling or recently moved. As noted, movie locations near my new city of Denver as well as the state of Colorado are pretty popular.
Another highlight is the ability to view stills from movies, though for a few there aren't possibly you would find should you did an easy Google search, and as mentioned, you'll be able to buy DVDs of movies from your app. While a fascinating concept, I'm not really positive that I want to purchase movies on the move. There is also another downsides, such as actor listings, that are meh at best, however, this is how the Spotters thing also comes in. Too bad this app didn't turn out before I moved.
As a film and TV fan who happens to love trivia, this is actually a pretty good app to have should you've got an Android phone. Definitely the highlight with this app is to view a range of locations of various film scenes, though I think most of the people will be enthusiastic about where their hometown or current town factors in various movies and shows.
A disappointment is a few areas miss, that may be annoying for users who know some movie or show was filmed within their neck in the woods. But to counter this, users can supply images and upload these to Spott. This is actually a great social interaction that gets fans involved while they proudly show off their cities and states.
I think a major let down is the fact that this app isn't free; with simply a small amount of information, this should be a free app that gets upgraded to pay for more expenses (like a chance to buy and download movies). Luckily, the price isn't too hefty -- simply a dollar and some change, so that it might actually be really worth the purchase if only to hope Inochi builds the app with fan interaction and loyalty.
