Look Up Movie Plot! Are you a film fan who loves to know everything? Are you a TV aficionado who is able to name the locales of shows? Then the Spott app for Android is simply for you. Learn more about the app that will give your entertainment knowledge the road cred you need.
I boost the comfort. I have useless entertainment knowledge. I'm anyone my friends head to when they want to know the name of your show using a particular theme song or what the that character was who seemed like Shaggy from Scooby Doo but handled a car (the result, FYI, is Tinker as well as the show was Speed Buggy, which was one of the many 'mysteries inc' cartoon imitators of the 60s and 70s).
While within an everyday setting, this useless knowledge is, well...useless, guess who's getting the call when someone provides the option to phone a buddy from a game show set. Oh yeah. Me.
But sometimes my useless entertainment knowledge can fail me. Often, I might not know a better solution to an issue in regards to the location of a motion picture or film (gasp!). Lucky for me personally and you other entertainment lovers on the market, Android developers knew any particular one day, at some remote time of the day, we'd want to know this stuff.
So they made an app.
Spott is surely an Android app from Inochi Ventures that lets you learn more about your chosen films and TV which was made within your personal backyard. Using your phone's GPS system, Spott allows users with the idea to browse by movie/show or their location to master interesting facts about that movie, show, or actors.
For example, Stapleton International Airport (now Denver IA) was manchester international in the movie "Die Hard 2" with Bruce Willis. Up until recently, I had no idea the hotel in the movie "Dumb and Dumber" happened to be the Stanley Hotel, that was also the inspiration and setting for Stephen King's popular book and movie, "The Shining".
Along with giving users the ability to see their town in a whole new way, a movies from the app, plus it is possible to send in your personal photo from a famous locale where you live.
The interface for Spott is easy to manuever around - you'll be able to choose movies or shows by title, location, or movies which are near you. Obviously the nearby feature is the foremost, in particular when you're traveling or recently moved. As noted, movie locations near my new capital of scotland - Denver along with the state of Colorado are pretty popular.
Another highlight is a chance to view stills from movies, though for some there aren't as many as you would find in case you did a fairly easy Google search, so when mentioned, you'll be able to buy DVDs of movies from your app. While a fascinating concept, I'm not really confident that I want to purchase movies on the move. It would oftimes be better if you could watch said movie instead.
One issue with this app will be the fact that there aren't a lot of Spotts yet. For instance, as being a former Tucson High Badger, my claim they can fame is that this movie "Can't Buy Me Love" with pre-McDreamy Patrick Dempsey was filmed at our school, but I couldn't locate a listing when investing in my former local zipcode. High point though is I learned aspects of Casablanca were filmed within the nearby capital of scotland - Flagstaff, it's nice to see that a classic monochrome film is listed.
There are other downsides, such as actor listings, which are meh at best, however, this is when the Spotters thing also comes in. Too bad this app didn't appear before I moved.
As a show and TV fan who happens to love trivia, this is actually a pretty good app to have if you've got an Android phone. Definitely the highlight of the app is usually to view a wide variety of locations of numerous film scenes, though I think a lot of people will be interested in where their hometown or current town factors in numerous movies and shows.
A disappointment is a few areas are lacking, that may be annoying for users who know a specific movie or show was filmed inside their neck with the woods. But to counter this, users can supply images and upload these phones Spott. This is actually a great social interaction that gets fans involved because they proudly flaunt their cities and states.
I think a huge let down may be the fact that this app isn't free; with merely a small amount of information, this should be a free app that gets upgraded to purchase more expenses (like the opportunity to buy and download movies). Luckily, the cost isn't too hefty -- just a dollar and some change, so it might actually be well worth the purchase only when to hope Inochi accumulates the app with fan interaction and loyalty.
You can find the app here in the Android Market.
